Hello Linkr lovers!

We’ve got two new and useful Linkr features to tell you about.

The first is the very handy Drafts feature located under the Campaign Management menu. Have a link building order you want to start entering now and get back to later? Simply enter the order normally in the Order Links form and use the snazzy new Save button on the bottom. This saves your order as a draft and lets you go back to it at any time by clicking Drafts and selecting Load Order. The Save button is also a great idea if you’re entering a large order which may take longer than usual. To make sure you aren’t timed out just click Save as you go along and ensure your work won’t disappear.

The second feature was created to override any incorrect automatic language identifications by Linkr. For instance, if Linkr identifies your anchor’s language as Greek but it is actually English, you can now manually change the language. In theory, this feature can also be used to place anchors in language A on pages in language B, however, we strongly discourage using the feature in this way. Building a link in a language different from the placement page’s language will result in a very low quality and ineffective link.

Until our next noteworthy updates…happy linking!

You may recall that Bing and Yahoo partnered up in 2010. When this happened Bing was given the reigns over the back-end of Yahoo search and it was clearly only a matter of time before Yahoo Site Explorer, which let you explore a site in depth, would be shut down. As expected the Yahoo Site explorer was closed on November 21 which disrupted the Backlinks Explorer function on Sorezki’s SEO Plus pop-up.

Well, we are pleased to announce we’ve upgraded Sorezki SEO Plus to work with Majestic SEO (see image below) and that backlinks exploration is back online. Use it to view essential information about your website’s backlinks versus competitors’ sites and improve linking.

We’ve also fixed a few bugs so that SERP domain highlighting works seamlessly and numbering Google search results is a breeze. To use the upgraded SEO Plus extension, simply uninstall your existing version and reinstall the new one.

Nowadays, when search engines crawl the web on daily basis, sites content is at risk. Plain queries allow hackers to manipulate search engines data for tracking easy targets on the web.

Security Backdoor Tracking

FrontPage Access Tracker:
“# -FrontPage-” inurl:service.pwd

This query will bring back hosted pwd files containing the username:password of hundreds of Frontpage based websites.

SQL DB Access Tracker:
“A syntax error has occurred” filetype:ihtml +dbname +login

SQL Syntax errors can reveal your most sensitive site information – the SQL username/password. All it takes is that Google will crawl your site with the slightest error. The result could be catastrophic and destructive.

To protect yourself from revealing this, you must create custom landing pages for the most common errors on your server (500, 580 etc’) so that people (or search engines) will never be able see the actual errors.

The Solution!

GHH. Google Hack Honeypot was designed to secure these and many other similar Google Hacks. The demo page includes details a vast amount of similar backdoors and shows how GHH deals with them on your server.

You’ll make yourself (or your client) a big favor by setting this up and preventing the possibility of such event ever occurring.

The answer is quite simple:
YouTube, being a Google company, have been kind enough to provide us with a keywords tool version for YouTube, so there’s no need to look around for custom api based tools (like we used to do with Twitter up until not too long ago).

Other than <del>Google Realtime</del>, Google also allows us to search reuslts crawled in the past 24 hours.

The question is, what if we wanna see more recent results? say.. from the past 10 minutes?

That’s where the QDR parameter comes in handy!

The QDR parameter tells the engine how fresh the displayed results should be, and lucky for us – Google has neglected securing it.

Here’s what the original URL looks like:
http://www.google.com/search?q=Test&hl=en&prmdo=1&prmd=b&source=lnms&tbs=qdr:d,dsc:1

This will bring back results from discussions including the word “test” crawled in the last 24 hours. If we’ll take a closer look at the qdr parameter, we’ll notice that it has a value – d (which stands for “day”).

For 10 minutes, we’ll change this value to S (for seconds) followed by the number 600 (for 600 seconds), like so – qdr:s600.

Here’s the full URL:
http://www.google.com/search?q=Test&hl=en&prmdo=1&prmd=b&source=lnms&tbs=qdr:s600,dsc:1

The results will now show discussions crawled in the past 10 minutes.

Could be useful for tracking the most recent discussions on a subject and replying before everyone else does as well as other cool things.

Quite simple and could obviously be used with more sophisticated quarries :]

USC.edu Stats: http://www.usc.edu/stats/prev/hscweb-monthly-server-stats.html
The URL above refers to the stats page of the University of Southern California.

Robots.TXT files tell search engines what they shouldn’t index, but it’s no use if we forget to tell them not to index themselves (which could lead to clashing the index with the noindex operation).

So, what do we do?
We could set up proper directory permissions on our server and disable ‘read’ for all external IPs but ourselves, or we could add a blank index.html and forget about mentioning the URL in the robots file, because if google can’t find it – they can’t index it.

Where the heck is the actual problem?
Ah! well, it’s quite simple really. Run a search for the following string – “robots.txt” “Disallow:” “private” filetype:txt and you’ll find out for yourself.

Need an example?

Ok, so here’s how I found the first URL in this post: “robots.txt” “Disallow:” “private” filetype:txt

First Result: http://www.usc.edu/robots.txt

/Stats folder is showing “Private”, so – http://www.usc.edu/stats/

http://www.usc.edu/stats/prev/hscweb-monthly-server-stats.html

Bottom line
robots.txt may be good for telling search engines what NOT to index, but if you really wanna keep your data safe – don’t mention it there.
